Gavin Beckett

Associate Director

Gavin Beckett is a digital leader and big picture enterprise architect, skilled in leading multi-disciplinary teams designing and delivering technology enabled change.

Until October 2017 he was Bristol City Council’s Head of Digital Transformation, leading teams responsible for technology, data and digital strategy; business and technology architecture; solution design; user research, UX and content design; software development, integration and data services.

Gavin led the design and implementation of new capabilities for the council; building a joint internal and supplier team that designed and delivered a digital platform and digital services based on an understanding of user needs; and led data and technology experts within the Operations Centre programme, delivering a new technology infrastructure that enables digitally inspired change to the councils operating model through smart use of data generated by digitised operational technology.

Prior to that, as Chief Enterprise Architect for the council since 2010, Gavin led the introduction of the disciplines of enterprise and solution architecture, architecture governance and assurance. He led work on a whole council Target Operating Model in 2012, was Design Authority on the council’s change programme from 2013-15 and led the evolution of Enterprise Architecture to align and support agile delivery methods – winning an award for best use of Agile in the public sector in 2015.

Gavin studied at Cambridge University (MA) and Bradford University (PhD), and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and Member of the British Computer Society.
